Brett Ater is a 2008 OF with a 5'9'', 160 lb. frame from Overland Park KS, who attends Olathe East HS. He has a strong, well-proportioned build on a medium frame and looks the part in a uniform. Ater has a chance to hit. He starts with a square stance and has a quiet approach. He showed a smooth swing and maintained balance. Ater's swing happens with easy effort and he actually has a little natural lift that suggests a little pop in the future. He gets through contact well and the ball spins a little off his bat, resulting in some carry. Defensively he has a nice approach to the ball. His hands are solid and he runs pretty well, with the chance to get faster as he gets stronger and more explosive. His arm action is a bit long. Ater is a strong student and looks to be developing into a good college baseball prospect.
