2024 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Brock Melancon is a 2028 RHP/1B/3B with a 6-1 200 lb. frame from Gray, LA who attends E.D. White Catholic High School. Features a physical build with noticeable strength throughout. In the INF, showed fundamental actions. Avg. footspeed and quickness in his movements but got to his spots on-time and worked through each GB well. Some stab at times with the glove but mostly clean and soft at reception. Noticeable feel in moving to the backhand side with developing feet/feel to the gloveside. Good charge on slow roller. Showed a medium arm path on throws which were accurate across with avg. strength for his level. At the plate, sits in a narrow/upright stance. Uses a bigger/hanging leg lift trigger as the hands load back into a higher elbow launch. Above avg. bat speed and strength to the swing. Path gets into some length early and works through on an uphill path. On-barrel the majority of his round where he sent hard LDs through the middle of the field. Balanced throughout the swing. On the mound, showed a smooth/low-effort operation. Side steps into a hip high lift and works more drop/drive down the mound. On-line with stride with avg. length. Clean and continuous arm action out the back and up to a normal 3/4 slot. FB worked into the low 80s, T84 where he showed strong control of it throughout his three shutout innings (4Ks). Mixed in a developing upper 60s slurvy breaker that had some hump out the hand but that induced a couple buckled takes during his outing. Outstanding student. Named to the National Underclass Main Event Showcase Top Prospect List.
