2024 Sophomore National Showcase (2027 Grads)
Kash VanHouten is a 2027 SS/RHP/3B with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Canton, IL who attends Canton. Big young build with broad shoulders and lots of physical projection remaining. 7.06 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop, arm is his best tool defensively, can create on line carry when he's behind it and changes slots well on the move, fields the ball cleanly, footwork and foot quickness may be best suited for third base in the future. Right handed hitter, starts from a medium base with a short stride into contact, high hand load, short and direct downhill swing, tends to cut off his swing out front costing him extension, can be more athletic in his swing approach. Graded out higher on the mound at this showcase, works from the stretch with a high knee raise start, long and very loose arm action to a high 3/4's release slot, good direction down the mound. Showed feel for three pitches, fastball sat in the upper 80's with up to 20" of IVB, could throw his low 70s curveball at any point in the count, killed the spin on his change up effectively and landed it for strikes. Excellent student.
