2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Conley is a big, mature bodied, strong sophomore right handed pitching prospect from Tennessee. He has only been pitching for 6 months after recovering from ACL knee problems that forced him to give up catching. He was wearing a knee brace in Fort Myers. Conley has a slow, deliberate delivery and a long, flowing arm action in back. He shows good present arm strength for his age, getting his fastball up to 83 mph with a 67-69 mph curveball. Conley still shows promise as a hitter as well and has future RHP/DH written all over him. He has a surprisingly short and quick swing for a big player and the ball jumps off his bat with authority. Conley will develop big time power down the road with his current approach and will be hurting some balls, especially with metal, if he gets stronger. It will be interesting to see Conley again this summer when he’s had some more time to get healthy and work on his game. Conley is also a very good student.
