2003 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Smith has that smooth, seemingly effortless swing that so many left handed hitters have. He has an open stance and approach at the plate and likes to look for pitches on the inside half of the plate. Smith drilled an 87 mph fastball into right field in one of his first at bats in Chapel Hill, which got our attention right away, and continued to make solid contact through three games. When Smith adds some strength to his wiry frame, he’ll develop good power with wood. Defensively, Smith is a corner outfielder with MLB average arm strength and very sound fundamentals. He had perhaps the most accurate outfield arm we saw at the Showcase. He runs fairly well too. Fuller is a very good student as well.
