2024 High School All State Select Championship (2027-2028 Grads)
Luke Hensley is a 2028 LHP/1B/OF with a 6-4 182 lb. frame from Danville, IN who attends Danville. Features a taller lean build with plenty of projection and some present strength. In the OF, showed developing actions. Some intent to his initial approach where he worked aggressive to the baseball with some quickness. Glove actions however showed some stiffness where he was late at times flipping it over and getting it down on time. Reception was made slightly deep and off to the side of his body. Booted a couple. Decent quickness to release where arm showed a longer action and got off on-line throws with avg. strength for his level. At 1B, displayed some better feel and comfortability here. Similar glove tendencies as the OF with some late display and turn over of his glove but it didn't stop him from fielding it clean. Made all accurate throws across with similar strength. Tried to barehand his slow roller which he booted. At the plate, sits in a wider base and uses a rhythmic leg lift trigger that works in sync with his hands. Hands takeback as he moves forward creating good separation into launch. Flashes of above avg. bat/hand speed at times where the barrel works on a slightly lofted path through the zone. On-time the majority of his round where he stayed through the middle of the field and caught a couple out front showing off some decent pullside impact. On the mound, he shows a slower/balanced operation down the mound. Side steps into a mid-chest knee tuck that comes down with minimal drive working more tall/fall. Smaller length stride that lands online with a taller finish. Arm worked loose and deep out the glove and up to a normal 3/4 slot. East/west plane of rotation. Spotty control/command throughout his outing. Ran the FB up to 80, living in the upper 70s where he leaked it armside a bunch. Mixed in a low 70s breaker that displayed strong slruvy shape with some good depth.
