2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Kyle Shipley is a 2008 RHP SS/3B with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame from Albany, CA who attends Albany HS. His outing on the mound was dominant and he was selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Shipley has an average athletic body type. He has a quick, long, and loose arm that works well from a high 3/4 slot. His dominant performance included striking out 10 hitters in 4 innings. He did it with both his 82-85 sneaky fastball and a hammerish 72 mph curveball that at times had 12/6 downer action. He also showed an excellent 74 mph changeup and threw it with feel. Shipley has good mound presence and solid stuff and he still has some velocity to gain with the fastball. He is a quick worker and an aggressive pitcher. Offensively he showed that same aggressiveness. The ball gets off his bat well and his hands work, allowing his swing to happen easily. Defensively he showed athleticism and played well in the middle infield. Shipley is a skilled baseball player and should thrive in the college game.
