J.B. Oldenburg -- Oldenburg is a 6-3 junior infielder from Virginia with very broad shoulders and a strong athletic look. He’s also surprisingly fast for his size, with a 7.18 time on the Fort Myers sponge that is more like a 6.7 or 6.8 on a regular track and a MLB plus 4.18 from the right side on a ground ball to second base. Oldenburg could end up at SS or 3B at the next level. He shows good fielding ability. At the plate, Oldenburg showed us two different approaches from batting practice to the games. In batting practice it appeared that he was nervous and was pulling off the ball trying to do too much. In games, he kept his hands inside the ball well and hit the ball consistently to right center and right field. Overall, Oldenburg is an excellent athlete who just needs to concentrate on improving his hitting to be a real solid pro prospect. He’s a very strong student. Keep a close eye on this kid!
