Carter Hughes is a 2029 RHP/UT with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Peoria, AZ who attends Sandra Day O'Connor. Medium young build with some wiry strength and more to come. Works from a full wind up with an early turn and tall and fall mechanics down the mound, mid 3/4's arm slot, short and quick compact arm action. Fastball was mostly in the upper 70's and topped out at 81 mph, straight for the most part but located to both sides of the plate effectively. Also showed good feel for locating a soft sweeping slider. Projectable arm who should continue to gain velocity as he matures. Right handed hitter, sets up in a narrow slightly open base with a deep hand load and drop into his swing, uphill swing plane with a lifting approach, has some strength in his hands, pull side top spin contact, strength is his main offensive asset. 7.74 runner in the sixty. Worked out all over the field on defense, arm played well at all positions, moved well in the outfield and showed good fundamentals, lower half quickness showed in the infield as a third baseman, adjusted his glove well and made plays cleanly. Less experience catching but his athleticism and tools make that possible as well with additional work and repetitions.
