Beauchamp is a 6-2 junior third baseman from Louisiana with a loose, athletic body that should gain strength as he matures. Beauchamp has good defensive actions and played well at shortstop as well as at third base. He has a loose whippy arm and soft hands but his foot quickness makes him better suited in the long term for third base. As a left handed hitter, Beauchamp has a narrow stance with a good loading action and quick hands. He showed the ability to turn on the ball during BP but did a nice job staying inside the ball against live pitching. Additional strength will really help him as a hitter. Beauchamp also threw 3 very effective innings in relief, showing a 78-81 mph fastball with good sinking and cutting action, plus a 65-68 mph curveball. If he was a primary pitcher, Beauchamp would be very projectable with his loose, easy arm action and we wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually became a mid-80’s type of hurler. The same description can apply to him as a position player; loose and projectable with a good set of potential college level tools.
