2004 National Open Top Prospect Showcase
Kevin Fitzgerald is a 6'1" left handed hitting third baseman from Shorewood, Illinois, who really played well during the showcase games. During the workouts he showed nice hands at third base and some arm strength with good accuracy. During the games he got to every ball, showing far better range than his 60 yd speed would indicate, and his arm strength and accuracy were impressive. At the plate, Fitzgerald has a smooth lefty swing with good extension and loft. He has a lot of hand action in his load which occasionally leaves him late to the ball, but he made solid contact during games. His frame is very projectable and he could develop some real nice power down the road as he gets stronger. Fitzgerald might be one of those performance players you need to see in a couple of games to get an appreciation for, and we certainly appreciated his abilities by the end of the showcase. Fitzgerald is a very good student as well.
