2004 Indoor Pitchers/Catchers Showcase
Lucas Harrell: Harrell was one of the very best this Showcase. He’s a physically strong senior right hander from Missouri with good strength throughout his body. Harrell’s pitching mechanics are excellent. He gets a very good, balanced load and hides the ball very well from the hitter. Harrell’s arm stroke is quick and smooth and the ball really appears to jump at hitters. Since his fast ball is already moving at 89-92 mph, when it looks harder the hitters are in big trouble. Harrell’s breaking ball was a slider that he gets up to 82 mph and it's a quality pitch but we were also intrigued by one 74 mph curveball he threw that had a bigger, sharper bite to it. He might be one of those pitchers who can throw both a slider and curveball effectively at the upper levels. Harrell’s 76-80 mph change up was a quality pitch with some sink and fade to it. Harrell threw strikes with all his pitches. All this without much sleep because he is the star of his high school basketball team that won a tough district playoff game the night before. After driving all night, he put on quite a show. This young man is going to be one of the top pitching prospects this spring in the Midwest and has a very bright future ahead of him. Making him more appealing yet to pro scouts is the fact he has signed with Crowder JC.
