Matt Wiegand is a 2006 RHP/1B from La Jolla HS in San Diego, CA, with a 6'3", 195 lb. frame. Wiegand has a very projectable body with projectable velocity as well. He throws from a standard 3/4 to low 3/4 arm slot with good delivery mechanics. Wiegand stays compact through his delivery and finishes his pitches well with a clean arm action. His fastball topped out at 81 mph with good late life. With his frame, build, and arm action, it is easy to think he will throw harder in the near future. Secondary pitches are not a problem for Wiegand as he throws a 63 mph curveball with very sharp and late break, and shows good arm action on his change up at 67 mph. Offensively, he hits from the right side with an open stance and quiet hands. Wiegand has good bat speed with a line drive swing plane, and shows strength in his swing with present raw power. In the field he has solid footwork with a good glove at first base. Wiegand has the chance to be a two-way prospect at the next level, and he is an outstanding student that needs to be followed closely.
