LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 National Showcase
Matthew Olson is a tall lean 6'5/185 RHP from Chesapeake, VA. He projects as well as any pitcher in the national with his outstanding arm and a ++ body. He showed good solid mechanics with a fluid arm action out of a tall delivery. He throws so easy that it looks like mid 80s without reading a gun. However it was a consistent 90-91with serious sink in Tropicana Field. He also shows a good breaking ball and changeup and he can command all three pitches. Olson might not be on any top 10 national lists as of June 2004, but before next June we wouldn't be surprised to see him be one of, if not the very best HS pitcher in the draft. MLB Scouting Directors need to follow him closely. This is a special pitching prospect. Matthew is a good student who can pitch and star at any college in America. Of course, he's a possible high pick as well. He was invited and attended the PG AFLAC Showcase in Baltimore. Truth is he belonged in the AFLAC game itself.
