2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Smith is a sophomore outfielder from Jacksonville with very good present strength, especially in his lower body. It’s evident that he works hard on his conditioning. Smith’s overall body life is good and he’s a sub-7.0 runner in the 60. Smith is a switch hitter with similar approaches from both sides. He hits with a somewhat spread stance but stands as tall as possible with high hands. Smith generates some leverage but doesn’t have much coil, stride or looseness in his swing and his flow towards the ball. Better rhythm into the ball will help him use his natural power. Smith’s swing from the left side was short to the ball with better raw bat speed than his right handed swing and he had a couple of game hits against right handed pitchers, which was good to see. Smith is a very good student as well.
