Lee is a physical athlete with lots of potential as a pitcher. He threw 87-89 mph with his fastball in Lincoln but we’ve heard that he will frequently touch the low 90’s when he’s rested. What we liked most about his fastball was the consistent late sinking and boring action he got on the pitch. Lee’s delivery is simple and sound and he threw a high percentage of strikes with all his pitches. Lee’s best secondary pitch was a low 70’s change up that he maintained good arm speed and a consistent release point with. He threw significantly more change ups than curveballs, fairly unusual for a young pitcher. Lee’s curveball had good spin and a big, arching break to it, but was only 64-67 mph and will need more speed and sharpness for it to be anything but a show pitch at the next level. He does possess a special arm and he's sure to create interest with MLB scouts and highest level college programs. Austin is a good student.
