Nicholas Jensen is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Appleton East HS, residing in Appleton, WI. He has a lanky body type with wide shoulders on his 6'2" 175 lb. frame. It is a body that looks to be capable of filling out very nicely in the future. He ranked #85 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and in the long run will be better than many of those ranked ahead of him simply because of their better present day stuff. Jensen pitches from an over the top slot and has an easy and pretty loose arm action. He has a short arm stroke on the back side and effectively hides the ball, creating some deception. Jensen has good arm speed and uses minimal effort in his delivery, which is slightly cross body, another dimension that adds some deception. His body remains in balance during the delivery and he showed good command and pitchability. Not a power guy, his fastball topped at 87 mph and sat in the mid-80s. Jensen did tilt the ball well to the bottom of the zone and had some late life on it. He IS going to gain velocity in the coming years, so radar gun addicts may miss on him. It was impressive to see him trust his stuff and compete on the inner half with his fastball against RH hitters. To complement his fastball, Jensen has a usable 71-72 mph curveball that he can start at a LH hitter's hip and move it away, or he can use the backdoor against RH hitters. Not only is his body projectable in a physical sense, Jensen is also a decent athlete, posting a 7.20 60 yard time. He is one to not forget about. It is likely he ends up in college and develops into an upper round talent in a few years. Do not forget that he is also from a cold weather state, so his arm should be pretty fresh.
