Remington Wilson is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from Cottonwood HS, residing in Sandy, UT. He has a stocky, compact build on his 5'11" 180 lb. frame. Wilson has enough catch/throw and power in his game to have been ranked #65 among PG National Top 100 position players. At the plate he sets up deep in the box with narrow feet, sort of like a Mickey Tettleton type set-up. He can get his barrel into the zone and through the ball, creating some power to the pull side gap. More than we have seen in the past, Wilson was hunting pitches and looking to drive the ball for power, a high risk, high reward type approach for someone with some pop, which he has. His hands can work inside the ball but that did not appear to be his general focus, indicated by his aggressive move to the ball with his body. Behind the plate he has a very quick transfer of ball from glove to hand and his feet are also quick. Wilson sits deep to receive and stayed that way with runners on base, slowing his pop times, especially in light of how quick he actually can move his body. With a different set-up he can be a consistent sub 2.0 thrower in game situations. He presents a nice target and has field general type leadership skills, though not in a loud, real vocal manner. He has caught one of the top arms in the nation during his high school career (LHP Tanner Robles) so he is capable of handling plus stuff. Wilson ran 4.8 home/1st and 7.88 in the 60. He is a college type catcher and should have a nice career, before moving on to pro ball.
