Ricardo Martinez is a 2006 outfielder from Miami, FL with a good athletic body at 6-1, 175 lbs that is very loose and projectable. He is the son of "El Presidente", former big league right handed pitcher Dennis Martinez. The family genes passed on arm strength to the son, as Martinez has a loose, very strong arm from the outfield and registered 89 mph during outfield drills. Martinez ran the 60 in 6.73 on the fast track in Atlanta, which surprised us, as he ran in the 6.4's in Florida the week previous under poor and wet conditions. He can really fly, and it shows in his outfield range as well as on the bases. He's a top level defensive outfielder. Offensively, Martinez has good bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat well on contact. He has a bat waggle in back that can affect his timing and his swing is a bit long right now, but all the ingredients are there for him to keep improving at the plate. The most important factor will be his growing into his frame and getting stronger. Martinez is a high ceiling talent who is just beginning to grow into his tools. He is also a very good student off the field.
