Bill Rowell is a 2006 SS/3B from Bishop Eustace Prep in Sewell, NJ, with a tremendous 6'4", 200 lb. frame. If anything, Rowell looks even taller than his listed height. He has very good speed and quickness for his size, running the 60 in 6.82 and showing very good range at shortstop. Rowell's actions at shortstop are smooth and easy and he has plenty of arm strength for the position. The temptation will be to think of Rowell as a future third baseman, as often happens with extra big shortstops, but there's nothing in his tool package right now that says he can't stay at shortstop for a long time. Offensively, Rowell is a potential impact middle of the order run producer. He has plus bat speed, gets very good extension through the ball and the ball explodes off his bat. Rowell doesn't get cheated at the plate, either, he's up taking a full hack and trying to drive the ball. He has some natural life in his swing and with his strength and leverage, he's going to hit a ton of home runs as he learns how to hit. Rowell has just about everything that the professional scouts are looking for in a player. He has committed to Alabama should he not go the pro route.
