2004 South Undergrad Showcase
Tanner Rainwater is a physically mature 2006 right handed pitcher/third baseman from Stephenville, Texas, who looks taller than his listed 6'1". He has good strength throughout his upper body. Rainwater showed good arm strength from third base during drills, but was inhibited by his pitching mechanics on the mound. He throws with no lower half involvement, opens very early and falls off fairly severely. That Rainwater was able to throw 79-81 mph was a testament to his raw arm strength. He also threw a 63 mph curveball. Rainwater showed impressive power potential at the plate as a hitter. He has a good load and rhythm to the ball, and good balance in his swing. Rainwater hit a shot off the 370’ sign in right centerfield during one at bat and had some other good at bats as well.
