Blake Dean is a 2006 left handed pitcher/outfielder from Crestview, FL with a lean build at 6-1, 175 lbs. He has a clean arm action with repeatable mechanics and a low 3/4's release point that provides some deception to the hitters. Dean will elevate his arm angle to give hitters a different look, as well, and his changing release points looks intentional and planned. Dean's arm is very quick and he threw up to 88 mph in Atlanta. He's been seen in the low 90's in the past. He throws both a curveball in the upper 60's and a slider in the upper 70's. His slider is the better pitch of the two and is especially tough on left handed hitters with it's sharp, late break. Dean also threw a 79 mph changeup that was a good present pitch for him. Dean combines very good pitchability with solid present stuff and velocity, along with being left handed. That's a very high level prospect. Dean is also a very good athlete who has outfield prospect tools as well. He runs very well and can play centerfield. He has some quickness in his bat, with good hand strength and the ability to drive the ball a bit. Dean is a solid student who has signed to attend LSU.
