Boyd was an easy player to scout in Chapel Hill because he “performed” very well and always seemed to be in the middle of some eye catching plays. Although he only ran 6.94, Boyd looks and plays much quicker on the bases and in centerfield. In fact, he shows excellent range right now on defense and ran down some balls in the alleys that looked like sure extra base hits. Boyd is a left handed hitter who has the hand strength and bat speed of a player far bigger than his listed 150 lbs. He drilled one ball deep off the right centerfield fence and showed the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields at different points. If Boyd continues to get stronger and even quicker, he could be a premium draft player by the time he’s a senior. Wilson is a good student.
