2003 Sunshine West Showcase
Jaco is an interesting 2003 player with 2-way ability. First of all, he is an unsigned Senior and an athlete. He ran a 6.95 in the 60, threw well from the outfield with 88 mph velocity and swung a real nice bat. He took the hard hitting approach into the games and beat up good pitching. Maybe even more interesting was his ability on the mound. He was scheduled to come in for the 2nd half of an 8 inning game previously scheduled. Since the starter had to leave abruptly in the 2nd inning, he entered with a fresh arm and took over the game. He is a left-hander with 3 very nice pitches that will get outs at the next level. He finished the 2nd inning off with 84-85 mph fastballs and began the 3rd at 84-86. His velocity kept creeping up into the consistent 87 mph range by his 5th and 6th innings of work and touched 88 mph. In fact, in the late afternoon sun, at 109 degrees, his last 3 pitches were clocked at 87 mph. Compliment that type of lively fastball from the left-hander with a sharp slider showing down action at 74-77 mph and he was un-hittable. He showed a 68-70 mph curve at first but realized it was not as sharp on this day as the slider. He also flashed a 77mph change. He was a highlight, that had top Junior Colleges glued to the backstop. If he was unknown before this weekend he is not anymore. Someone will be signing a true talent.
