Owen Von Esslinger is a 2016 C/3B with a 5-10 185 lb. frame from Palm City, FL who attends Martin County. Medium-Large frame with good present build and strength. Sets up to hit with a wide base, hands away from body in a lower set. Middle to pull-field approach when hitting, shows feel for the barrel with developing power. Swing will get long at times, shows extension through contact, has carry off the barrel, on time with consistency. Shows gap power at present; should develop into more HR power with added strength. Good, flexible set behind the plate with excellent receiving skills. Gains ground well with good transfer in catch-and-throw mechanics; shows advanced arm strength (78 MPH to 2B), popping as low as 1.94 seconds. Showed off very good blocking ability and mechanics in game setting, highlighted by good lower half agility and quickness side-to-side. Very good student.
