Pedro Alvarez is a 2014 C/1B with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Arecibo, PR. Tall, large frame, lean athletic build. Hits from a slightly open stance, long swing with good bat speed, long stride, has some strength at contact. Raw present mechanics, long stride throws off balance at times but when he squares it up the ball carries well off the bat. Aggressive swing, effort to it, attacks the baseball, contact rate will improve as he learns to tone down his swing and maintain better body control through the swing but has the tools to be a productive hitter at the next level with adjustments. Short arm action, quick exchange on catch and throw mechanics behind the plate, provides a big target for his infielders as a 1B.
