Matthew Blaes is a 2016 LHP/OF with a 6-2 165 lb. frame from Maylene, AL who attends Thompson HS. Nice young athletic build, long and lean, projects well physically. Compact delivery and arm action, stays balanced over the rubber well and has good direction to the plate, tight and high 3/4's arm slot, could extend better out front on release. Mid 70's fastball topped out at 77 mph, has been up to 80 mph this summer at PG events, works down in the zone well with good angle and life, throws strikes and challenges hitters early in the counts. Nice curveball spin with good 1/7 depth, change up also has nice life. Knows how to pitch, mixes his pitches and throws strikes with all pitches. 7.27 runner, showed good athleticism in the outfield in drills. Right handed hitter, straight stance, stays on his backside and hits uphill, gets some extension through the ball. Key will be adding strength and velocity to his pitches, has all the other major elements of pitching in place.
