Ryan Allgrove is a 2008 SS/2B with a 5'9'', 155 lb. frame from San Carlos CA, who attends Serra HS. He has a compact athletic build on a small to average frame. Allgrove is the type of player that elicits comparisons to David Eckstein. He does most things very well on the field and looks like the type of player that will thrive in college baseball. Offensively he has a quick, short stroke and very good approach, hitting where he is pitched and using the whole field. His bat control is outstanding and he stays inside the baseball. Allgrove is an excellent two-hole type hitter. He is also a heady and good baserunner that is clearly well-coached. Defensively Allgrove is a gamer. He has a quick release and good baseball clock, with an accurate arm. His hands work well and he has good footwork. Allgrove does not have a typical shortstop arm, but plays the position well, due to his instincts, his jumps, reads, and angles to the ball. He is a strong student and winning type of player.
