Zach Gibbs is a 2017 C/RHP/3B with a 6-0 187 lb. frame from Wentzville, MO who attends Emil E. Holt HS. Strong, sturdy build with present strength and size throughout frame. Sets up at bat with an upright stance and narrow base, loads with a big leg lift trigger that can lead to slight unbalance, and gets through the zone with solid bat speed and some lift. Up the middle approach with good contact skills and some gap power. Sets up to catch in a low, flexible stance with obvious athleticism. Quick release with online and accurate throws, popped 1.92 and topped at 77 MPH from behind the plate. Showed quality ability in the infield as well, with clean fielding actions, a good first step, solid side to side mobility, and a strong arm that topped at 84 MPH. Works from a high 3/4 slot on the mound, gets downhill well. Overall simple delivery that he repeats well. Worked with FB and CB during outing. FB worked 82-84, topping at 84, with quality sink and run in the zone, missing bats and eliciting weak contact. CB flashed excellent depth and tight spin in the 71-74 range and was a very good complement to the FB. Threw consistent strikes with both pitches and attacked hitters. Well-rounded prospect that will succeed in several areas. Good student. Named to National Indoor Showcase Top Prospect list.
