2006 National Underclass Showcase
Evan Stermer is a 2008 1B/P with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Wellington FL, who attends Wellington HS. He has square shoulders and good present strength. Stermer was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. A year ago he came to this event as a primary pitcher and while he's still a good pitcher, we thought then and think more now that he's a primary first baseman, which is now his listed position. Stermer can rake. He has a simple, sound swing with excellent balance and good bat speed. Stermer can square up and hit the ball hard to all fields, then change his swing and add some lift and power pull the ball. He's a versatile hitter who knows how to hit and has really performed well in game situations. He's going to drive in lots of runs in the future. On the mound, Stermer has a similar style as he does hitting. He's smooth, balanced and uncomplicated and has good feel for pitching. His fastball topped out at 84 mph and he pitched in the 79-82 mph range. His curveball and change up are very good pitches and he can mix and match with command and pitchability. Stermer is a very good ball player with presence and savvy on the field. He's an excellent student and should get attention from plenty of high level schools.
