2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Harris is a 6-5, 190 lb senior left handed pitcher from Texas with a very good pitcher's body with looseness and strength. In fact, there are some on the Perfect Game staff who think that Harris might be a better first base/outfield prospect than pitching prospect because of his overall athletic package. Harris is a 7.09 runner with plus speed underway. He has a sweet left handed swing that has natural lift and power to it and his bat speed will increase as he adds strength. We've seen Harris throw in the mid-80's on the mound in the past. He was only 78-80 at this event with a 65 mph curveball and was really struggling with his throwing mechanics, especially for such a good athlete. Harris was getting almost no help from his lower half or front side during his delivery, almost like his body was saying at the top of his wind up "That's enough, I'm not going forward any more." Result: No stride, no momentum to the plate, no velocity, no command. If he's been coached to do this, with all due respect, he needs to find a different approach. If he hasn't been coached, he needs to find one. There is a ton of talent in this young prospect that's waiting to get out and projects to have a very high ceiling. Follow him for adjustments and improvement. Good student.
