Christopher (CJ) Rice is a 2022 OF/LHP with a 6-0 177 lb. frame from Lantana, TX who attends John H Guyer HS. CJ is an emerging athlete who has the frame and physical make-up that certainly projects to the next level. He can and should add both size and strength as his career continues. Academically, CJ shows outstanding ability in the classroom. A primary outfielder, CJ displays smooth, easy, and confident actions defensively. He reads the ball well off the bat and positions quickly. He plays through the fielding action with gathering momentum. His glove work is sure. He transitions to throw well and his 77 mph throws show consistent carry and accuracy. On the mound, the LHP is a strike thrower who works with calm efficiency. While not a flame thrower, his 69-72 mph fastball is thrown to spots and kept off the heart of the plate. His arm action dictates that velocity will certainly come as he gains experience and matures physically. His arm works. CJ is poised and pitches with a plan that is certainly helped by his sound mechanics and his ability to repeat his operation. CJ is also an accomplished switch hitter with the bat. Like his other actions on the diamond, CJ is smooth and consistent operator with the stick. He is easy to load and has an ability from both sides of the plate to get his barrel to and through contact. He shows a flatter plane with some lift at contact. He has a sure feel for the barrel. His swing plane and ability to track the ball, coupled with his timing, dictates that power will come as he gains experience and matures physically. His bat speed is very evident. CJ has the tools and apparent work ethic to continue to grow his career. He is just scratching the surface. Great things lie ahead.
