2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Thomas Ulmer is a 2006 LHP/1B with a 6'3'', 214 lb. frame from Athens, Georgia, who attends Clarke Central High School. He has a strong and durable body. On the mound he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm. Ulmer is very deceptive on the mound with a high leg kick, but he stays online and balanced throughout. He throws a heavy fastball that topped out at 81 mph, and he locates the pitch well. Ulmer's best secondary pitch is his changeup that he gets good late life one, and he also throws a breaking ball at 69 mph. He keeps hitters off balance and he throws strikes. With his projectable velocity, he has a good upside on the mound. At the plate he is a left handed hitter with very good bat speed and strength in his swing. Ulmer is a very patient hitter with good eye and an advanced approach. He stays back on pitches well, and shows raw power to all fields. Ulmer is a two-way prospect that needs to be followed. He is also a good student.
