Connor Chapman is a 2018 3B/RHP, 1B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Anaheim, CA who attends Canyon. Large frame with a strong, athletic build. Frame projects for continued strength. Ran a 7.50 sixty yard dash. Primary third baseman with fundamental footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels from a deeper position with clean glove actions and developing fluidity. Shows some first step quickness to each side with occasional range. Smooth paced, deliberate glove to hand exchanges while working into throwing position. Topped at 79 miles per hour across the infield with accurate, on line carry to the bag. Right handed hitter with a straight, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Lower half shows rotational actions to contact with minimal shift. Hands launch on compact, line drive path with occasional leverage through extension. Shows the ability to turn the barrel to baseball as well and create loud contact to the pull side gap. Primarily used a gap to gap approach and consistently squared up contact throughout batting practice. Also pitched showing a small rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side and uses lower half well with drop and drive actions. Stays on line well while working to the plate and carries momentum through finish well. Compact arm circle back at separation and creates slight hook. Released from a compact, high three-quarters to near overtop arm slot and generated solid downward angle to the plate with fastball offering. Fastball shows good life through the zone with good running action to each edge of the plate at 80-84 miles per hour. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with curveball offering that had 11-to-5 shape with softer spin and some depth. Repeats arm action and mechanics well while consistently pounding the bottom of the strike zone. Solid athlete who will continue to develop with maturity and repetition. Very good student. Named to the 2016 Cal Underclass Top Prospect List.
