Austin Kretzschmar is a 2018 SS/2B, 3B with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from La Mesa, CA who attends Helix. Medium frame with an athletic build. Frame projects for additional size and strength with continued physical maturity. Ran a 7.22 sixty yard dash. Primary shortstop with smooth, athletic footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Travels low while moving to each side with good first step quickness. Funnels the baseball cleanly out front with smooth, mechanical glove actions. Clean, quick glove to hand exchanges while working through transition and gets the baseball out quickly to the bag. Released from a loose, high energy arm action that generated solid carry across the infield with accuracy, topped at 82 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an even, straight stance. Produced big shift into contact with linear lower half actions. Barrel comes through the zone on a naturally lifted path that produces solid leverage through extension. Swings with intent while turning the barrel to contact that generated hard line drive contact to the pull side gap. Consistently squared up contact throughout batting practice with the ability to drive the baseball through each of the outfield gaps. Outstanding student. Named to the 2016 Cal Underclass Top Prospect List.
