2016 West Coast Underclass Showcase
Blake Dickerson is a 2018 1B/LHP with a 6-4 180 lb. frame from Temecula, CA who attends Temecula Valley HS. Large frame with long limbs and a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 7.15 sixty yard dash. Primary first baseman, surrounds the baseball well with smooth actions. Flashed solid range while coming off the bag and working to both side. Clean arm action that produced solid carry with accuracy across the infield, topped at 75 mph. Left handed hitter with a balanced stance and quiet load. Hands launch to contact on a naturally lifted plane creating a high finishing position. Showed a gap to gap approach while swing with intent to drive the baseball. Flashed bat speed and strength through the zone producing some loud contact to the gaps when squared. Flashed the hand and barrel control to work to all fields when maintaining balanced throughout swing path. Also pitched showing a simple side step delivery. Creates some torqued in back leg while coil with front side. Extended arm swing back with a long arm circle. Releases from an over top arm slot that generates good downhill angle to the plate. Fastball had good life through the zone with occasional running action, topped at 78 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape with tight spin and good depth when located down in the zone. Mixed pitches well effectively keeping hitter off balance. Consistently filled the strike zone with developing command to each edge of the plate. Very good student as well.
