Richard Rodriguez is a 2018 LHP/1B with a 6-3 206 lb. frame from Bronx, NY who attends Archbishop Stepinac. Extra-large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and nice present strength proportioned throughout frame. Primary lefthanded pitcher, simple side step into delivery with slight drop and drive to release, lands on line with front side at release. Full arm action coming through the back clean and easy working to an extended three-quarters release point, fluid arm action and topped out at 78 mph with fastball. Creates cutting life to fastball at times and running life to arm side other times. Has some whip to arm and doesn't exert much effort at release. Works down in zone and throws strikes, varies shape of curveball and can throw both for strikes, more depth with 1-7 shape, sweeping life to 2-8 shape. Solid changeup at 74 mph, has life down in zone. Moves well off the first base bag, quick transfer into short arm action, gets on top of throws well, fields the ball cleanly. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance in the box. Upper body swing, incorporates physical strength well and produces quality bat speed with power potential off the barrel. Middle of the field approach with balance throughout swing, solid leverage out front at contact. Graded higher as a bat in this particular look. Very good student.
