Sam Long is a 2021 1B/RHP, 3B, OF with a 6-1 160 lb. frame from Elmer, NJ who attends Arthur P Schalick. Tall, lean frame with long limbs and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Ran a 7.16 sixty-yard dash. Primary first baseman with clean footwork while moving off the bag and surrounding the baseball. Fluid glove actions while funneling out front and worked through exchange well. Loose arm circle at separation and released from a lower three-quarters arm slot. Throws generated some carry across the infield with developing accuracy, topped at 77 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a crouched, even stance and simple front side trigger. Shifts into contact well with lower half. Clean hand path to contact with a level, line drive barrel plane through extension. Flashed some feel for the barrel while showing solid bat speed to finish. Employed a mid field approach and created some lift to the gaps when creating contact out front. Also pitched showing a simple rock step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall at gather and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball produced good downward plane through the zone with occasional run in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 78 miles per hour. Also flashed the ability to cut fastball to glove side in the lower 70's. Curveball had 11/5 shape with tight spin and good depth. Maintained arm speed with breaking ball offering creating good deception at release. Excellent student.
