Ryne Schooley is a 2018 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Iowa City, IA who attends Regina Catholic. Large frame with a lean, athletic build and wiry strength. Ran a 7.30 sixty-yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and utilizes lower half well with drop and drive actions to the plate. Tends to swing front side at times and cause momentum to work to glove side. Long arm circle back at separation and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Generated good arm speed with a fastball offering that flashed solid sink and run to the bottom of the zone in the low to mid 80's, topped at 85 miles per hour. Curveball showed 1/7 shape with solid spin and depth in the low 70's. Also flashed a changeup with occasional fading action to arm side in the mid 70's. Good feel for each pitch to the outside edge and consistently induced weak, ground ball contact. Also worked out defensively from first base showing clean glove actions with fundamental footwork while centering the baseball and setting up to receive. Topped at 80 miles per hour across the infield producing solid carry to the bag. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Good shift into contact with linear lower half actions. Simple, direct barrel path with natural leverage through extension. Present bat speed and has the barrel control to turn to contact and work to pull side with authority. Primarily worked to each outfield gap with a line drive approach. Very good student. Named to the 2017 Spring Top Prospect Showcase-Top Prospect List.
