2006 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Zac Taylor is a 2007 OF/P with a 6'1'', 170 lb. frame from Vandiver AL, who attends Coosa Valley Academy. He has an athletic build with good present strength and the frame to get stronger still. Taylor was one of the best game hitters at the showcase and seemed to hit the ball hard every time at the plate. He has unconventional hitting mechanics in that he hits from a spread, crouched stance and tends to fall off to first base during his swing, but he has the bat head skills to square up on the ball consistently and the ball jumped on contact. He both pulled the ball hard and stayed inside the ball to the middle of the field. Taylor's rolling exit from the batter's box means he gets down to first base much quicker than one would expect, with a best home to first time of 4.31, versus his 60 time of 7.67. Taylor showed good arm strength from the outfield and good actions to the ball. Overall, Taylor is a good looking athlete who can swing the bat. He is also a very good student.
