William Matthews is a 2016 3B/1B, SS with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Geneva, IL who attends Marmion Academy. Medium frame with plus physical projection. Spread stance with toe tap trigger. Extends through ball will with present pop and strength to swing. Shows rhythm with body and hands. Weight from lower half transfers through contact well. Front side stays on contact and allows for strength in swing to all fields. Hands attack to inside of ball and uses a middle of field approach. Shows some range to both side and athletic from the infield. Quick low slot on release and transitions from glove very well. Shows best mechanics when attacking through ball. Topped at 70 mph across infield. Also pitched from a 3/4 arm slot with shorter arm actions and swing. Compact, repeatable delivery. Consistently pounded the bottom of zone with fastballs, ranging 72-75 mph. Good deception with a shorter slider from same 3/4 arm slot. Very effective on RHH when starting at belt. Likes to work quickly and throw strikes. Good student as well.
