Richie Leonard is a 2020 3B/1B, RHP with a 6-2 250 lb. frame from Cocoa, FL who attends Cocoa. Strong, broad shouldered frame, strength throughout and through lower half, incorporates it well in game. Primary third baseman, short steps moving towards the ball, shows control of body moving towards the ball, fields the ball out front and shows accurate throws across the diamond from lower slot, mostly upper body used at release, arm strength will continue to develop. Fields the ball closer to body at first base, full arm stroke through the back, accurate to intended base. Also pitched, side step moving into delivery, leg lift up past belt and gets tall on backside with a slight hip turn at top. Lands closed with front foot, short arm stroke through the back working to a three-quarters slot. Flashes short running life to fastball at 72 mph with occasional cut to glove side, some effort at release. Curveball shows 11-5 shape with developing feel at 61 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high back elbow in the box and utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing. Shows balance to swing and looks to create lift with slight upper cut to swing path. Upper body dominant swing and stays short to the ball, uses a middle of the field approach but can work all parts. Shows jump off barrel when on time and balanced. Good student.
