Blake Elam is a 2017 MIF/RHP with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Council Bluffs, IA who attends Abraham Lincoln. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 6.96 sixty yard dash. Primary middle infielder with smooth, fundamental footwork while surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball out front with smooth, quick exchanges while working through transfer. Topped at 81 mph across the infield from a low three-quarters arm slot. Throws produced accurate, on line carry to the bag. Right handed hitter with an upright, straight stance and compact hand set. Lower half launches to contact with linear actions creating some shift. Shows present bat speed through extension when turning the barrel to baseball and working to pull side. Baseball jumps off the barrel well when on time and squaring contact. Also pitched showing a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and utilizes lower half well with drop and drive actions to the plate. Lands at a slightly closed position but easily clear hips while working to finish. Flashed multiple arm angle from a low three-quarters to a traditional three-quarters slot, primarily releases from the three-quarters arm slot. Fastball comes out of hand cleanly in the mid 70's with occasional running action. Slows arm speed slightly with curveball offering. Curveball showed 10/5 shape with soft spin and good depth down in the zone. Shows good feel for both pitches with developing command to each edge of the plate. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Very good student as well.
