Layton Helms is a 2018 2B/RHP with a 5-9 146 lb. frame from Sandy Ridge, NC who attends North Stokes. Medium frame with compact, athletic build and good projection remaining on frame. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.51 seconds. Hits from wrapped start, spread stance with solid balance, open slightly, lacks complete shift into contact, shows quick hands to and through zone with solid barrel control, line drive swing plane with best contact coming on a line back up the middle. Worked out defensively in the IF. Moves well to the ball and shows balance throughout, fields cleanly and gathers well, transfer is clean, throws accurately across the diamond up to 74 MPH. Pitched as well, uses legs well in delivery and drives downhill, repeats delivery well, slight slinger arm action to 3/4 slot, FB worked 70-75 and touched 76 with good sinking action. Showed SL in mid-upper 60's with solid tilt and projectable spin. Good student.
