Garrett Taylor is a 2019 C/RHP, OF with a 6-2 160 lb. frame from Escondido, CA who attends Sage Creek. Large frame, lean athletic build with wiry strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.22 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher with a low, wide spread lower half and good hip flexion. Receives the baseball well with softer hands and works out of crouch with fundamental lower half actions. Releases from a compact arm action with good arm strength to the bag. Topped at 73 miles per hour with a best workout pop time of 2.09. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Lower half shows rotational actions to contact with occasional shift. Stays balanced throughout and works to baseball with a naturally lifted swing plane through extension. Swings with intent to drive the baseball through the outfield gaps. Showed a smooth swing plane with present bat speed when getting hands extended at contact. Also pitched showing a smooth paced, side step delivery to medium leg lift. Stays flexed on back side at gather and drives to the plate with drop and drive actions. Lands at a slightly closed position creating some crossfire action from a high three-quarters arm slot. Works the bottom of the zone well with a fastball that flashed some arm side run between 74-77 miles per hour. Curveball had 12-to-6 shape with softer spin and occasional depth when staying on top of offering. Also flashed a slider with slurvy shape and occasional sweep to glove side in the mid 60's. Consistently filled the strike zone with developing feel to the edges of the plate. Very good student as well.
