LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Samuel "Brock" Bailey is a 2007 right hand hitting infielder/outfielder from Lee County HS, residing in Leesburg, GA. Bailey has an athletic and strong, well-proportioned build on his 6'0" 191 lb. frame. He has a very nice tool set and should continue to develop into a top end prospect. Bailey was ranked #93 among PG National Top 100 position players and in time will move past many of those that are currently a bit ahead of his level of development. Bailey is a game hitter, meaning that he was much better in the games than in the BP session. He is clearly strong and has an aggressive nature that does not really work as well for him in BP. His approach was one of the best of all hitters in the showcase. Bailey stayed in the middle of the field on a consistent basis and made a lot of hard barrel contact. He takes a pretty big swing but has good timing and got to the ball well, with good plate coverage. There is some power in his stroke and when he learns to stay closed a bit longer, he will be able to drive the ball out of the yard to the opposite field. He is a talented young hitter who will only get better. That big swing could cause some problems against pitchers with better pitchability, but Bailey is starting at aggressive and can always ratchet down. On defense he showed an accurate arm and good hands, both very suitable for 3rd base. His arm stroke is a bit longer than most third baseman, but there are plenty of players that make it work (for instance a player like Pedro Feliz). Bailey ran 4.49 home/1st with a very impressive 6.76 laser timed 60 yard dash. He has a chance to be an impact D1 player and should continue to develop into a nice professional prospect. He will get some area scout attention this fall but college would do him well.
