Drew Black is a 2018 SS/RHP, OF with a 6-4 199 lb. frame from Overland Park, KS who attends Blue Valley Northwest. Large frame with broad shoulders, long limbs and present strength. Ran a 7.38 sixty-yard dash. Shortstop with clean, smooth footwork while rounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball out front and works through exchange well. Good arm strength from a low three-quarters slot and produced accurate, on line carry to the bag topping at 83 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance and high back elbow set. Shifts into contact with linear lower half actions. Loose, extended path to contact with a naturally lifted plane through extension. Present bat speed and strength at contact. When on time, ball jumped on the barrel when authority to the gaps. Also pitched showing a simple step to medium leg lift delivery. Works to balance with a slightly tucked top half and utilized lower half well while driving to the plate. Generated good downward plane to the plate from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball showed good life through the zone with running action in the low to mid 80's, topped at 85 miles per hour. Slider has solid spin with good sweep to glove side when maintaining arm speed. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with a changeup offering in the mid 70's. Repeated mechanics well and looked to worked to the bottom quadrants of the zone. Consistently missed barrel and induced weak contact. Named to the 2017 National Academic Showcase Top Prospect List. Good student.
