2015 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Giovanni (Gino) Palomba is a 2017 OF/RHP/3B with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Lawrenceville, GA who attends Mountain View HS. Medium, athletic build with present strength. Primary outfielder, also plays infield, but only worked out in the outfield at this event. Measured approach to the ball, works to a lower 3/4's arm slot, has a longer gather, but ball comes out of hand well, clocked at up to 82 mph in defensive drills.
Right handed hitter, hands set high and close to body at start. Aggressive approach, nice weight shift. Displayed solid bat speed, shows some strength off of the barrel. Occasionally will get a bit tied up, but showed ability drive balls when in rhythm, hit the ball well in games. Also pitches, has some deception from an extended 3/4's arm slot. Quick arm, gets through well. Fastball up to 81 mph, has some life when located down in the zone. Displayed good feel for slider and used it to both righties and lefties, tight spinning pitch with late bite. Very good student.
