James Holden is a 2017 C/RHP, 3B with a 6-0 176 lb. frame from Murphy, TX who attends Wylie High School. Medium, broad shouldered frame with physical strength proportioned throughout body. Ran a 7.84 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, low set up behind the plate, full arm action through the back with a lower slot at release, deep transfer, arm strength will continue to develop with additional lower half involved in release. Similar arm action across the infield, short steps moving towards the ball and while charging in, fields the ball out front, compact through the back with arm and gets on top of throws well. Also pitched, starts of first base side of rubber, medium leg lift up to belt, short stride down the mound and lands balanced towards the plate, full arm action through the back working to a three-quarters arm slot. Creates some angle to fastball, topped out at 75 mph with occasional cut to glove side. Flashed an 11-5 shaped curveball with short depth at 64 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Strides open shifting into contact, uses hands well and does a nice job of hitting the ball out front. Upper body dominant swing, line drive swing plane and shows a nice path to the ball, use of lower half will help continue to develop swing, creates steady contact to the middle and pull side parts of the field. Good student.
