Jacob Anthony Mata is a 2021 3B/IF with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Waxahachie, TX who attends Waxahachie High School. Medium, broad shouldered build with present physical strength proportioned throughout frame. Primary third baseman, fields the ball out front, stays low through actions and can continue to incorporate additional lower half into release, fields out front and funnels into a shorter arm stroke, works on top of the ball and shows accuracy across the diamond, short steps on the charge, has tools to improve upon. Also pitched, full hand path with a gather on backside; works to a three-quarters release point and stayed on top of fastball well, topped out at 81 mph. Threw strikes and pitched to contact, showed life when working down in the zone and flashed a curveball at 69 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow in the box; upper body dominant swing at present and shows strength off the barrel, projects with implementing a weight shift into contact. Hands start away from body and shows quickness to them to create some whip through the zone. Shows ability to impact the baseball to his pull side with backspin coming off, occasionally opens front side early in swing. Very good student.
